PA CareerLink® Northumberland, Snyder and Union Counties Announced
Following the Central Pennsylvania Workforce Development Board (WDB) meeting on April 15, 2011, Mr. Jamie Aurand, WIB Chairman, announced the Board’s unanimous decision to locate a PA CareerLink® office in downtown Sunbury. After a thorough evaluation and analysis of customer volumes, demographic data and facility costs and negotiations with the City of Sunbury, the 225 Market Street location has been selected as a regional hub to serve the residents of Northumberland, Snyder and Union counties. According to Mr. Aurand, “We believe that the centralized Sunbury location has the potential to serve a large number of job seekers and employers from these three counties.”
The downtown location offers easy access and, with cooperation of from the City of Sunbury, complimentary parking, adjacent to the building will be available for PA CareerLink® customers.
Mr. Aurand further noted that, “This has not been an easy decision for the Board, but it is a decision that previous year funding reductions and projected deeper cuts have forced upon us. Our Board’s mission remains focused on providing a broad range of services to job seeker and employer markets throughout a large and diverse nine county region.”
The PA CareerLink® site serving the residents and employers of Snyder, Union and Northumberland Counties will open in Summer 2011. Until then, services will continue to be provided at the current PA CareerLink® locations in Shamokin and Selinsgrove.
Shannon Miller, CPWDC Executive Director, assures job seekers and employers that they can expect the same high quality services at the new location. “We are excited to get to work with the PA CareerLink® staff to design a site that will continue to provide job search and skill development services to prepare job seekers for employment opportunities and develop a workforce capable of meeting employers’ needs,” Miller stated.
