Gold Medal Initiative

The Central Pennsylvania Gold Medal Initiative is intended to support career development, career acquisition, employability skills and entrepreneurship skills among all students in grades kindergarten through 12. The Central Pennsylvania Workforce Development Corporation believes that career education can support students’ academic performance by introducing and supporting these innovative concepts:

  • Employer Engagement: establish connections between local companies and schools. Employers are the natural champions of career education in schools.
  • Integrated Curriculum: develop lesson planning guides for educators that include career development, awareness and regionally relevant material that can be incorporated into classroom activities at all grade levels. Please explore the Gold Medal Career Education Lesson Plans and Curricula developed by local educators.
  • Industry-Focused Activities: regional coordination of employer-based activities that complement classroom learning, such as career fairs, job shadowing, employer in the classroom and educator in the workplace, internships and career speakers’ bureau. View our upcoming Educator in the Workplace events.
  • Career Information: develop a process that ensures access to locally relevant information on careers, high demand occupations, the regional economy and other key information needed for schools to deliver appropriate and relevant career education. Connect to our Parent Toolkit for career information.

Employer Endorsed Credentials: encourage employer endorsement of regional initiatives like School Counts! and WorkKeys® to increase the number of students working toward these credentials.
