Central Pennsylvania YouthBuild
Rebuilding Our Communities and
Our Lives
A unique opportunity exists
for young adults ages 18 to 24 who reside in Columbia,
Lycoming, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder, and Union Counties.
YouthBuild
is
a youth and community development program that simultaneously
addresses core issues facing low-income communities: housing,
education, employment, crime prevention, and leadership
development. In YouthBuild programs, trainees work toward their
GEDs, learn job skills, serve their communities by building
affordable housing, and transform their own lives and roles in
society.
YouthBuild program trainees will take part in a 6 month PAID
training program where they will split their time between an
alternative classroom and a construction jobsite. In the
classroom, trainees will complete their GED and obtain valuable
certifications. They’ll also receive guidance on managing
their money and preparing for their future. On the jobsite,
trainees will learn a variety of construction skills and gain
hands-on, real world work experience to add to their resume.
They’ll also have an opportunity to network and improve their
community by remodeling affordable housing.
During the program, YouthBuild trainees will earn the following:
-
GED—General
Equivalency Diploma
-
Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate in Construction Trades
-
WorkKeys®
Career Readiness Certificate
Upon completion of the program,
trainees will begin a new career or post-secondary training.
